Physical Geography of the Languedoc

Languedoc geography: The Languedoc divides into two distinct areas, the plains of the Bas (Lower) Languedoc and the rugged terrain of the Haute (Upper) Languedoc, towards Provence and the Alps.
The Haute Languedoc is a sparsly populated, mountainous area, the refuge of successive waves of exiles and refugees over the centuries. It includes the Parc National des Cévennes.
The Bas Languedoc is a popular destination for holiday makers.
